Promoting Sustainability and Local Development: Cran Chile Commitments

Part of our work is to implement important actions that contribute to the entire ecosystem of which Cran Chile is a part.

Basin Protection Program: to protect the water that supplies the company’s fields and nearby communities, through reforestation with native species in areas bordering various rivers and streams; with local labor, using native plants from the community nurseries of Las Quemas and Panguilelfun. Achieving to cover 16, 71 hectares, with 15,470 species between Oak, Coihue, Raulí, Notros, Maitén, Mañío, Ulmo.

Communitarian Restoration: since 2020, Cran Chile supports the implementation of several protection zones of water sources, springs and rivers in neighboring communities’ properties. This work is carried out in conjunction with CONAF and the neighborhood councils of each sector.

Participation in local basin protection and local economic development roundtables: organized by social organizations in the communities. This is the case of the Agricultural and Forestry Roundtable of Paillaco, convened by the Communal Union of Rural Youth and Youth Groups; the Public-Private Roundtable of Lanco and the Watershed Protection Roundtables of Aylin and La Luma.

This reforestation work has generated instances of collaboration with more companies, organizations and public services to protect the basins in a coordinated manner.

Cran Chile has promoted the local and circular economy, encouraging:

Creation of community nurseries of native plants: formalization and expansion of two community nurseries initially supported by the company, these are the Panguilelfun Nursery (Panguipulli) and the Las Quemas nursery in Lanco.

In relation to the Circular Economy; we are generating opportunities for local suppliers. Starting with neighboring organizations, elaborating a development plan, identifying initiatives that generate a community economic momentum. Cran Chile provides seed capital in materials and technical and organizational assistance, to later generate support alliances with other public and private organizations, such as Fosis and Conaf. Creating community nurseries of native plants with low stock availability.

Community potato seedbed in Panguilelfun: the potato seedbed group of the José Dionisio Millapán Indigenous Community (locality of Panguilelfun, commune of Panguipulli), carried out a work plan to plant potatoes, with technical assistance and distributed in 3 fields.
